When I needed to get cataract surgery back in October of 2019, I did some research and found that Dr. Cuevas was highly recommended and close by. I had planned for the replacement lens to allow me to see at distance, as my other eye was decent at distance, and I find monovision very uncomfortable. I was very impressed with Dr. Cuevas, and over the course of preliminary appointments, the trifocal lens option was mentioned as a way to have the distance vision, but also get reading and mid-range vision. The $2000 premium was pretty steep, but I decided that it would be worth it, and so decided to get the trifocal lens.
Surgery went very well, and my recovery was surprisingly quick, but on a follow-up visit, when I mentioned that I was having trouble reading, Dr. Cuevas said that his analysis showed that the lens had settled in a way that would mean I probably wouldn’t ever have clear reading vision in that eye. He casually mentioned that this sometimes happens, and not to worry as I could get a reading lens when I get my other eye done (which would give me the very monovision I was trying to avoid).
The possibility of adding reading vision was the sole reason I paid a $2000 premium for the trifocal lens. When the lens didn’t give me clear reading vision, Dr. Cuevas offered no remedy, and now it was too late for me to do anything about it. This was so counter to the promises I was given before the surgery that had convinced me to pay the extra $2000.
I sent a letter to Dr. Cuevas in October of 2022 conveying these concerns. He called me once, leaving a message. I called back several times but never got to speak with him. It seemed clear to me that he was not interested in helping me (or wasn't able to).
I gave up pursuing it, but today my daughter suggested that other folks might benefit from my experience, thus this review.

At my annual visit I was given a prescription for glasses for night driving. Dr. Keller told me he "would be afraid to be on the same road with me". Using the new glasses was disorienting and made things hard to see. No one believed me.I was told to keep using them After weeks 0went by and nothing improved I went in for another eye test which took about two months to schedule and two weeksto arrange. It turned out the first prescription was wrong. One eye needed no adjustment and one needed a small adjustment.
I'm an older woman and was treated without respect. I was treated quite well in the business world. I know the difference. This was a red flag in so many ways. Look elsewhere.

I would rate Boulder Eye Surgeons as a five star office. Their practice has excellent customer service, and I am treated with respect and not like a baby (seems to accompany one as we age). Staff is top notch, and Dr. Nichols is highly skilled, kind and attentive, and takes time to thoroughly explain things.

My experience with Boulder Eye Surgeons was outstanding.
Dr. Nichols and his staff were very informative which allowed me to make the best decision for my cataract surgery. I chose the light adjusting lens which allowed me to become eyeglass free. This choice required multiple sessions of adjusting my lens while in my eyes with ultraviolet light. Even though my eyes were very sensitive, Dr. Nichols and his staff were very accommodating, kind and helpful, making the process easy and stress free. I would recommend Dr. Nichols and his staff to anyone who needs eye surgery. Thank you Dr. Nichols and Staff. Cheers, Patrick
